    File guide

    Files that print first time.

    • STL, in millimetresBinary or ASCII. Tick the inches box if your CAD exported in inches. STEP, 3MF and OBJ can be sent with the request form.
    • Watertight meshClosed surfaces with no holes or flipped faces. We repair small problems; big ones go to review.
    • Walls at least 1.2 mmThinner walls are fragile or vanish. 2 mm or more for parts that take load.
    • Mind the overhangsFaces steeper than 45° need support material, which costs time and leaves a rougher surface. The tool tells you when they are detected.
    • Holes print smallAllow 0.2 to 0.3 mm extra on holes and clearances. Tell us which fits matter and we will tune them.
    • One file, one partSeveral bodies in one file are fine and counted as parts. Set quantity for how many prints of the file you need.

    Questions

    I only have a broken part, a sketch or a photo.

    Bring it in or send photos with the request form. We measure and model it at a small fee, send you the file to approve, then the quote. Most replacement parts are modelled in an hour or two.

    Which material should I pick?

    PLA for indoor parts and prototypes. PETG for anything that gets knocked about or lives outdoors in the shade. ASA for parts in direct sun. TPU for gaskets, feet and flexible clips. Carbon-fibre nylon for stiff, strong, hot parts such as brackets near engines.

    How strong are printed parts?

    Strong across the layers, weaker between them. We orient the part so the load runs along the layers where we can, and the quote tool lets you choose heavier infill. Ask us if the part is structural.

    How long does it take?

    Standard is 5 business days from go-ahead. Rush is 2, if a printer has capacity. Large parts on the MD-400D take longer and we confirm the date before you commit.

    Can you print in colour?

    Each part prints in one colour from stock. Two-colour prints and painted finishes are available by arrangement; add painting in the quote tool or ask.

    Is my design kept private?

    Yes. Files are stored only to make your parts and are never shared or reused.
